The R + V subsidiary “KRAVAG“, one of the best-known and largest insurers in the transport logistics sector, has developed an app to offer a solution to the problem of missing truck parking spaces.
Through this app, transport companies / freight forwarders throughout Germany are linked. The drivers or dispatchers of these companies are thus able to use (and also reserve) a suitable and safe parking space along the route on the premises of the other companies very easily and unbureaucratically in order to save themselves the annoying and often futile search for a parking space. Everything happens via an app on the smartphone or in the office on the desktop. Installation is free of charge. Only when a parking space is booked a parking fee of 7 euros is due and will be automatically settled with the entrepreneur. Most of the fee goes to the company that provides the parking lot and sanitary facilities. What makes these parking spots special: the truck is parked on the closed company premises that are not accessible to strangers.
And yes, the following is also fulfilled everywhere … the necessary comfort for the driver. Not the same standard everywhere, but there is always a sanitary facility. The space is also always locked and can be accessed via a corresponding one-time valid access code that the driver receives on his smartphone after booking. Most of the facilities also offer a small variety of catering items, which is usually just as missing in almost all freely accessible parking lots as the sanitary facilities. Most of the parking spaces are also less than ten minutes away from the motorway, so the time lost is usually less than when the driver has to drive from parking lot to parking lot because all parking spaces are absolutely overcrowded. Often the driver has no choice but to park on hard shoulders or other forbidden areas in order to be able to take a break. The risk of violating the driving and rest times is also avoided here, and with it the associated penalties.
